What is Nationwide SmartRide?
Nationwide’s SmartRide is a usage-based insurance program that gives users personalized feedback to help them make safe driving decisions. Customers earn an instant 10% discount when you sign up, and the safer you drive, the higher the discounts get—up to 40%!
Nationwide SmartRide tracks four factors:
 Miles Driven — On average, the more miles driven, the higher the chances of an accident. |
 Hard Braking & Acceleration — Safe drivers rarely stop abruptly or slow down in excess of 7.7 mph per second. |
 Idle Time — Driving in stop-and-go traffic is riskier than in steady traffic. |
 Night Driving — Driving between midnight and 5 a.m. increases your chances of an accident. |

How Nationwide SmartRide Works
Nationwide SmartRide works by providing drivers the opportunity to save money based on their driving habits. Users can participate in SmartRide one of two ways:
1. Nationwide SmartRide Mobile App
A. After enrolling in SmartRide, download and activate the app.
B. Drive as usual, but make sure to confirm the first few trips.
C. Check the app to see progress and track discounts.
D. Lock in the final discount at the end of the program. The discount will be applied at your next policy renewal.
2. Nationwide SmartRide Device
A. Nationwide will send a small device for you to put into your car within 10 days of signing up
B. Drive as you normally would.
C. Track your discounts and receive personalized feedback about your driving habits online.
D. At the end of the program, send back the device and lock in the final discount. The discount will be applied at your next policy renewal.

There is no cost to participate in SmartRide. All you have to do is enroll, plug in or connect and drive.

How often is the SmartRide discount calculated?
